David A. Daglio Jr. has recently left his post as Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of Mellon. He is currently serving as a Non-Executive Director for the aforesaid company. Daglio is a former engineer turned equity investor, who is keenly interested in the intersection of human values, behavioral science, and business strategy. 

Over the past 21 years, Daglio has helped design, launch, and eventually manage a unique equity investing approach that drove industry-leading performance and won numerous awards.  More recently, Daglio helped architect and manage the merger of three unique companies to create the 12th largest U.S. Asset Managers with $500B in assets. In his role as a Portfolio 

Manager and Chief Investment Officer, Daglio has worked with institutional clients and boards around the world, managed teams of investors, and increased assets by over fivefold. Along the way, Daglio and his team have analyzed over 10,000 unique companies, utilizing a proprietary investment process, and identified a shortlist of those that are likely to outperform the broader market over a 3- to 5-year period.

For over ten years, Daglio chaired the firm’s Global Insight Team, a cross-functional team of over 150 investors that brought together concepts from macroeconomic, geopolitical, commodity, equity, quantitative, and thematic areas to better understand the world environment.  He was on the board of The Boston Company since 2002 and joined the Mellon board post the merger of the joint companies. He was also a board member of BK X, a trading platform.   

Daglio and his team have won numerous awards for fund performance, including Institutional Investor Best Buy-Side Manager, Forbes Top Investor, and numerous Lipper awards for best-in-class performance.   

He began his investing career as a Senior Equity Analyst researching technology companies, then was promoted up the ranks to Portfolio Manager, and was subsequently named Chief Investment Officer of active equities. In that role, Daglio managed his own team and portfolios and also supervised 65 global investors, across multiple investment philosophies that incorporated both quantitative and qualitative approaches to security prices.

Prior to his investing career, Daglio’s first decade of professional experience included advising companies strategically and financially as a Management Consultant at Deloitte. Before that, as a Mechanical Engineer for The Dannon Company (Danone), he designed and managed the construction of their largest plant, and supervised a manufacturing team of over 100 employees.

He is a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and of New York University’s (NYU) Stern School of Business with a Master of Business Administration, and is also a CFA charterholder.
