Joey Chan, CFA was formerly the Director of Conferences and Educational Events at CFA Institute, Asia Pacific Office—responsible for upholding members’ continued professional excellence in the Asia Pacific region. He was also the Chief Representative (i.e., legal person) of CFA China’s representative offices in Beijing and Shanghai from 2008 to 2020.

Chan has more than 30 years of extensive experience in the financial consulting and solutions fields, including coding and algorithmic trading. Prior to joining CFA Institute, he worked for China Resources Holdings in Hong Kong as Deputy General Manager of a group finance unit. He was responsible for strategic planning, treasury, and risk management solutions. Before joining China Resources, he worked as Principal Consultant of Oracle Systems (HK) Ltd., covering the Southern China region, and oversaw a virtual team of experienced consultants and Chartered Accountants. He also worked for a Japanese consulting company providing risk management and consulting services to some of the largest banks in the world and by that time, the largest banks were mainly Japanese.

Chan received his MBA from the University of Warwick in the UK and his Master of Laws (LLM) in Corporate and Financial Law from the University of Hong Kong. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Economics with second upper honors and a Bachelor of Laws with second honors from the University of London. Chan is a member of the CFA Institute, a fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of CPA (HKICPA), and a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). He is also a member of the British Computer Society (MBCS) and qualified as a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).

He also has served as a volunteer in the following capacities: member of Banking and Finance Advisory Committee, Executive Development Centre, Hang Seng University of Hong Kong for almost two years. In 2004, he became a member of the Board of Directors of Hong Kong Society of Financial Analysts/CFA Society of Hong Kong for two years, member of CFA Institute’s Global Corporate Governance Task Force for three years, and participated in the CFA Institute Speaker Retainer Program for two years. Chan received his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 2000.
